Zoe's Legacy

Why This Exists

Built from Love.
Driven by Mission.

The first military funeral I ever attended — I knew the soldier. He was a well decorated Soldier — a husband, a father, a man who had deployed multiple times and carried what deployments carry. On the outside, he and his family seemed fine. The average couple. Until the day he died by suicide in his office at the armory.

I stood at that funeral and watched his wife receive his flag. I watched his daughter in the front row. I heard the 21-gun salute for the first time and felt something shift permanently inside me. That sound has never left me.

That was not the last military funeral I would attend. As a telecommunications specialist and public affairs soldier, my first funeral assignment overseas — on deployment in a combat zone — was also a suicide. I have stood at attention more times than I can count, tears I have never tried to hide, watching families absorb a loss that leaves questions that never fully close.

I am a combat veteran, a retired Army National Guard Sergeant First Class, a mother, and a survivor. I know what it means to come home from war and feel like the battle followed you inside. I know what it means to be held together by something that cannot speak but never leaves your side. For me, that was Zoe — a Mastiff who met me at my lowest and walked me back to myself. She passed in 2013. Heiress, an Olde English Bulldogge, carried me through my second deployment and my retirement, until her passing in February 2026.

Zoe's Legacy LLC exists because these animals saved my life. And because too many of my brothers and sisters never got that chance.

I am true to this. Not new to this.
